Are you supposed to peel carrots?

I saw a whole bag on sale for $1 but I guess I didn't consider I might need to buy a peeler at the same time. I left them soaking in water which got rid of most of the soil.I also tried peeling 1 with a swiss-army knife but it didn't go well, worse with the large-slice on a cheese crater. I'm using them in a stir-fry.

well in a stir fry i make them into 2 - 3 cm stick length but if you don't have a vegetable peeler why not just use a vegetable knife or a blunt knife

To preserve the peeled carrots you might as well put in fridge.

No. It is pointless to peel carrots. Don't bother.

If the skin is smooth & clean, just wash or scrub. Most of the goodness is in the skin anyway.I slice them with a paring knife for cooking.

as an alternative you can scrub them clean with a scourer. this also preserves some of the vitamins and fibre which would be lost by peeling.

A vegetable peeler is your best friend for peeling carrots. You don't have to necessarily peel them, but the skin is sometimes bitter so most remove it. A good scrubbing to remove the dirt is fine.

You can buy prepackaged stir fried carrots at most grocery stores. They cost more than a dollar but consider the value of your time and effort. A peeler is worth the expenditure as well. Good Luck. Hope it comes out really great.
