the sugar thing is because some sugar is processed with bone char. it's very very hard to stick to this, though, because companies don't label their sugar to say whether it was or was not made this way. some vegans are strict about this, some are not.yes, vegans can have coke, provided they are not super strict about sugar.chocolate, certain kinds, like a lot of dark chocolate and some semi-sweet without milk.mayo is made with eggs, but there are substitutes.ketchup is vegan as well, but it has sugar in it.there are a LOT of salad dressings that vegans can have! Newman's Own, Annies, and a lot of mainstream brands. you just have to read labels.

Some vegans feel that anything taking from the earth is not right, however, these vegans soon die of starvation because that is the natural order of things. We do not have to eat meat, or animal bi products, but we are MEANT to eat, so we need to eat plants etc. My definition of vegan for answering this question is for those whom do not comsume anything made by an animal.Sugar: grown from plant, so it's okay. Coke: as far as I know, it's just sugar, chemicals and Co2, but do your research.Chocolate:Most chocolate contains milk ingredients (lactose, whey), so under normal circumstances, no. However there are a large aray of vegan chocolates out there.Mayo: Nope, it contains eggs, a bi product of chickens, which are treated more horribly than other farm animals, if you can imagine.Ketchup: as far as I know, it's just tomatoe paste and sugar, but do your research.Another thing you can't have: Honey. A bee will work all it's life to produce 1 tea spoon of honey. Monks in tibet say that it is a more nobel choice to take the life of one animal than to take the food of a million tiny beings.

Most sugar is processed with bones.Coke is fine unless you're against yeast, or the sugar.Dark chocolate is fineMayo is not vegan, it has eggs, obviously.Ketchup has sugar in it.Not all vegans do the sugar thing, but if you want to be a good one you should.

actually cane sugar is whitened with bone char (an animal by-product) therefore, it's off-limits for vegans. although, beet sugar is fine. :) vegans also stay away from rennet (enzymes from animal stomach lining) and gelatin (from animal skin, bones, and connective tissue). you need to read the ingredients on labels very carefully!
