It's Frankenfood. Humans have no right to be screwing with nature.

There is only one reason to modify a perfectly good food source...money. While there are some presumed benefits to genetically modified food such as making certain crops resistant to harsher climates to fight starvation. Those benefits would almost certainly open the door for the companies doing the modifying to exploit those benefits for the sake of profit. Corn is an excellent example of a food that has been genetically modified and has been robbed of most of its nutrition. Yet it accounts for a large percentage of the food products you find in your local grocery store. In addition, there are the weird modifications like changing genetic components of the kiwi to make the pulp purple or make bananas taste like cotton candy. All in all changing natural foods in my opinion is a bad idea and as they trickle into the market you should avoid them. There is a growing controversy in Africa regarding GM foods. Several nations facing famine have refused GM foods, that means they'd rather starve than eat GM foods.

The average person cant avoid eating genetically modified food. They are usually in products containing soybean, corn, canola, and cotton seed oil. I don't agree with these genetic engineering techniques at all.

I have mixed feelings about it. I think the modifications need to be carefully evaluated before allowing them to be grown . That's all I will say for nowBut the other answer mentioned modified corn starch. That is not genetic modification. That is chemical on the product not the plant. It does not however adding chemicals to the food . Heating it in the presence of high moisture modifies starch.

I avoid it! It's terrible for you. Check the ingredients of almost anything you buy, more than likely it has "modified corn starch" or "modified food starch". Most corn is genetically modified nowadays. It's very unfortunate...they also modify soy, meat and just about all kinds of produce. THINK ORGANIC!

Well G.M crops could prove very beneficial through their capacity to sustain themselves during rough conditions that might otherwise destroy food. They can be pest resistant, herbicide resistant, disease resistant, have a high cold tolerance and a high drought tolerance not to mention it being possible to place nutrients in them that one would not receive from regular food. There is also the debate whether they will save the world from the food crisis. Its debatable really given we dont yet understand the effects they may have on our health. They could be incredibly beneficial but like another person said..is it justifiable to tamper with genetics of the food? Possibly, have to wait and see!
