It depends on exactly how you define pizza. There have been similar types of foods around for a very long time possibly going back to You might find these sites interesting for the history of pizza: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read… http://whatscookingamerica.net/History/P… http://www.passion-4-pizza.com/history_o… http://www.experts123.com/q/what-is-the-… Your friends may be thinking of pasta rather than pizza. http://www.windsor-communities.com/itali…

Pizza as we know it came from Italy, although real Italian pizza is nothing like we know in the US. Italian pizza was essentially leftovers thrown on top of some flat bread (foaccia) and baked. It didn't have cheese or tomato sauce. The pizza we know was created in America - but by Italian immigrants. They used a different dough, some fresh tomato sauce and some Mozzarella and created the pizza. It's much the same way that Chop Suey is American Chinese food but is completely unknown in China.

Well those really smart people are not so smart. Pizza is Italian. I promise you. I have been in Italy and they have pizza. I have also been all over China and the closest thing I saw to Pizza was in PIzza Hut. The Chinese did not invent pizza and they mostly don't eat it. It's the foreigners with money who eat at Pizza Hut or any other pizza restaurant in China. Those "really smart people" out smarted themselves.

Do you eat it with chopsticks? No? Then it's not Chinese.

Pretty sure pizza is italian. Pasta uses noodles though which originate in China.

Why does this ridiculous question keep showing up on Y!A? Think about it for just a minute: does Chinese food ever have cheese on it? (no); does Chinese food typically have tomato sauce on it? (no); does Chinese food ever come with a yeast-based bread, like a pizza crust? (no). Is cheese common in Italian cooking? (yes); are tomato products common in Italian cooking? (yes); are yeast breads and crusts common in Italian cooking? (yes). How many Chinese menus, or Chinese buffets, have you seen with pizza on it? You really need to start thinking critically rather than relying on what people say to you. Pasta came from China to Italy, but not pizza. Pizza was created in the US by Italian-Americans, and is considered Italian food.

Pizza, as we know it, is neither. Pizza is an American food based off of culinary influences from Italian immigrants. As for it being chinese, I´ve never heard anything life that. There are written record from Greece dating back centuries where toppings were placed on flat bread, perhaps this could be an origin, but it´s definitely not the same as Dominos. check out the link, this will clear things up.
