There actually is a lot of science behind it. If you think about it, we're the only animals on the planet who cook their food and fire was discovered by humans at some point, we didn't come onto the earth with the knowledge of how to cook food and therefore don't need to for any reason. A lot of people are under the impression that if people don't cook their food they will get really sick and die. But if you look at the entire rest of the animal kingdom, that's obviously not true. Now I realize that just because we don't "have" to cook our food doesn't prove that we necessarily shouldn't. But it really is healthier for you to eat raw foods. There are a few reasons for this:-You diminish the nutrients in your foods when you heat it up, even for a short time, such as pasteurization. -Foods are made more acidic when you cook them. Most foods are in the slightly acidic to alkaline side of things in their natural state. When you cook them, they become acidic. Even foods like lemons, which in and of themselves are acidic have a very alkaline effect on your body. The human body works much better at a more alkaline pH. Meat, after it's been cooked, is extremely acidic. Foods that have not only been cooked, but processed are the most acidic. Soda is one of the worst substances you can put into your body.-When you heat foods you produce carcinogens. Many studies have demonstrated this. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles…-The raw food diet is free of meat, dairy, and gluten (for the most part, occasionally raw vegans will eat sprouted wheat and oats). These foods have been shown to be associated with many health issues. The whole gluten thing was what got me started on the journey. I went gluten free on a whim and all these health problems that I'd had for years went away. It turned out that I had gluten intolerance. To name a few, I had had a serious anxiety disorder, PCOS, IBS, and symptoms of what I suspected was MS (I was too scared to go to a doctor to get a formal diagnosis). All those health problems went away and I started doing research. It's not magic, if you don't have gluten intolerance, you won't find better health going gluten free, but the research is showing that about 1 in 10 people have gluten intolerance. That's a huge number. A very large portion of the population is reacting to gluten. There has been a lot of controversy about gluten lately and how it relates to autism, ADHD, etc. and there really is something behind that. I was shocked about how gluten was affecting me. There was a study on how gluten was playing a part in schizophrenia and they found that 80% of the schizophrenics in this study had some degree of gluten allergy/intolerance. That's huge. So there's that. There is also a lot of evidence that dairy plays a part in different diseases. It's actually been shown that high dairy consumption correlates with higher risk for osteoporosis and osteoporosis is way less common in populations where milk isn't consumed. The risk for black Africans is pretty low, whereas black African-Americans is much much higher. Dairy isn't consumed regularly in many parts of Africa, while it is in America. Other studies on just Americans and their levels of dairy consumption have shown the same thing. It's also been shown to play a part in asthma, acne, and many other health problems. Meat has also been shown to be bad for your health in many ways, especially the way we eat it. It's one thing if you are a baby drinking your mother's milk, that is species appropriate, unpasteurized, and fresh. That's healthy. Drinking the milk from another species, after it's been heated, and sitting on a shelf for awhile is not good. Animals in the wild eat their meat raw, right then and then before it's had time for the bacteria to reproduce. We don't.-Enzymes in the foods. When you cook foods you kill the natural enzymes. Your body needs to use it's own digestive enzymes to digest the foods. This has been proven. The theory is that when you eat cooked foods every day, your pancreas gets worn out causing diabetes and other diseases. I don't use this as a reason because I haven't seen any research on it. No one has studied it so it may be true, it may not be, it's just that no one has tested this theory so I have no idea if it's true.-Some scientific evidence and a lot of anecdotal evidence has shown the many many benefits behind the diet. If you don't know, anecdotal evidence is basically personal testimonials. They can be biased, but there are many many people who say that they have cured major diseases with the raw food diet. Some people had terminal cancer and were told they had a very low chance of getting better and went into remission and lived a normal life. Unfortunately, there hasn't been much scientific research done, so there isn't more "proof", but the studies that have been done are very positive.

Mostly because it's healthier. Many people believe that the healthiest diet is living foods, raw fruits, veggies, sprouted beans & seeds etc. Although I'm vegan and not raw, I have gone completely raw for a few weeks at a time and my energy and mood increased tenfold! The "Raws", as I like to call them, take their thinking to ridiculous heights. They allow their emotions and compulsive make-up to make them live in an irrational world...a world that exists only in their minds.

Everyone I know has became a vegan because they don't agree with killing animals for our well-being. Just one person can make a difference when it comes to being a vegan. The less people who eat meat, the less animals are killed. If you watch things on animal activist websites, something like Peta, you will see the awful things done to animals when it comes to raising them on farms or mills. They are hurt as in beaten and chemically grown so they can be killed faster. Animals aren't put on any medication before they are brought to the slaughter house. For one, it isn't healthy for us humans at all. Not eating meat, can be a healthy choice. From my experience, it has made me unhealthier. That is only because I'm not the type of person to go out and eat tofu- which I should be doing because with out meat I don't have the nutrients I need. It is okay though, knowing that I am not eating an innocent animal that clearly didn't have a chance to live.
