Should I start eating meat again? I've been vegetarian for four years?

I'm starting to get acne and I think its because I'm not getting the nutrients I need. Should I just start eating fish? That way, I could get my zinc, omega 3's, etc. Right now, I mostly consume pasta, bread, and veggie burgers along with fruits and vegetables. I'm thinking of adding lean chicken and fish into my diet or just fish. I really don't like the idea of killing an animal, but I don't think I'm good on my diet anymore. Should I just add fish? What should I do!?

Get rid of the dairy and see what happens to your face! You'll be amazed.

The diet may not be causing the acne (if you wear make-up often, that can have an effect) but if you're having concerns, try adding fish to your diet (you'd be a peskitarian (sp?) rather than a vegetarian) and see if this makes a difference over a few months or something. If it doesn't, you can stop eating meat again becuase you know it's probably linked to something else.Another option is also taking supplements, if you don't want to eat fish.

I had used to get REALLY bad acne, suffered for YEARS, among other problems, I constantly had bugs, colds, flu, I was barely ever well. These problems got worse & worse over the years, in the end my skin was SO bad I didn't want to leave the house, I couldn't even look anybody in the eye, I was so embarrassed, my constant illness, caused me to lose jobs, fail courses, bread (& anything else with any yeast or any fungi) started to taste like mould, no matter how fresh it was, & any time I ate them, I would vomit, come out in rashes, I got REALLY bad aches & pains in my arms & legs, I would be blocked up & sneeze constantly, I had some of the worst head aches (hurt so much I couldn't speak) it was kind of like flu but 50x worse.., my arms & legs would go numb, I'd get really crippling stomach pains & MANY other problems. Then just over a year a go I realised I had an allergy to fungus, mould & fermented products (mushrooms, yeast, soy sauce, vinegar, wine, beer, antibiotics, ...). Since I have cut these products out of my diet, I've not had any problems. My skin has been fine, I've not had a single illness even though everyone around me has caught loads of winter bugs. I can't believe it, it's been over a year! The longest I had been before without getting ill was a few weeks! So you may find you have an allergy. They can just suddenly develop. Hope this helps!

Okay.....if you've been a vegetarian for 4 years and you're just now getting acne, it's not because of your diet. People just get acne. Talk to a dermatologist and get some face wash or something. Your diet sounds great. It really sounds like you're getting everything you need. Maybe a little more calcium and protein WOULD help, though. But I can't really talk!Anyway, you sound fine to me.

After 4 years and you just now are getting acne, so you relate it to being vegetarian? How old are you? If you are a teenager its probably normal. It could also be adult onset acne. Have you been touching your face a lot or sleeping with your face on the pillow? Those could be reasons. Have you been eating more dairy? Dairy is a major cause of acne. What about junk food? Have you been eating junk food lately?

Well, the fish and chickens say "no."In terms of health, fish contains mercury, which is horrible for human health (you should see footage of Japanese kids with mercury poisoning; it's so sad!), and chicken is full of antibiotics. If you want zinc, eat pumpkin seeds, and if you want omega 3's, start sprinkling your veggies with flax oil or your oatmeal with ground flaxseeds. For your acne, either see a dermatologist or start using Desert Essense Thoroughly Clean face wash. In addition, keep your hands away from your face, especially when your hands might be oily or unclean, and keep your hairline clean with a good shampoo.

first of all i would visit a doctor you may be allergic to something that you are eating. It could be the soap you are using which would have nothing to do with what you consume

If it's just the nutrients that concern you, add flax seeds- they have all the zinc, omega 3s and B vitamins, without the carcinogens and mercury. (You can sprinkle them on just about anything- cereal, salad, soup, pasta etc.)One of the easiest ways to combat acne, however, is to improve your circulation by revving up your digestive system. Cut out the processed foods (although occasional consumption is fine- bread, pasta and veggie burgers shouldn't be staples in anyone's diet!) and replace them with raw fruits and vegetables, and raw nuts. Drink copious amounts of filtered water. After a few weeks, most people will notice an amazing improvement in their skin.

I found that after going veg (bout 4 years ago) my face cleared up due to the lack of fatty meat! If you feel like you're missing something though it doesn't hurt to add a bit of fish. Or you could take vitamin supplements. Considering how long you've been a vegetarian and how sudden the acne is, it is most likely not related to your diet. You're acne is probably a result of a hormone imbalance. Or stress. But, until you figure out the problem might I recommend Burt's Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Cleansing cream? It works wonders! I have no acne and I'm a teenager.
