I have been a vegetarian for two years, and I have several reasons why I chose to become one.a) I always hated the idea of the poor animals being slaughtered for us to eat.b) I never really ate meat to begin with.c) It really sickens me witht he amounts of antibiotics and growth hormones used on cattle each year to make a bigger juicier steak. I didn't want to have all that floating around in my system. And i still eat seafood, but only wild, never farmed.

Dear,These are some of the following reasons so as to why vegetarians eat no meat product-1.No deficiencies. There is no nutrient necessary for optimal human functioning which cannot be obtained from plant food.2.High fat plus cholesterol. Animal foods are higher in fat than most plant foods, particularly saturated fats. Plants do not contain cholesterol.3."Carb" deficient. Meat is deficient in carbohydrates, particularly the starches which are so essential to proper health.4.Vitamin deficient. Except for the b-complex, meat is largely deficient in vitamins.5.Agricultural Chemicals. Being higher on the food chain, animal foods contain far higher concentrations of agricultural chemicals than plant foods, including pesticides, herbicides, etc.6.Exposure to livestock drugs. There are over 20,000 different drugs, including sterols, antibiotics, growth hormones and other veterinary drugs that are given to livestock animals. These drugs are consumed when animal foods are consumed. The dangers herein, in secondary consumption of antibiotics, are well documented.7.Pathogenic Microorganisms. There are a host of bacteria and viruses, some quite dangerous, that are common to animals. When I eat meat, I eat the organisms in the meat. Micro-organisms are present in plant foods too, but their number and danger to human health is by no means comparable to that of those in meat.8.Shelf life differential. Plant foods last longer than animal foods. Try this experiment: Leave out a head of lettuce and a pound of hamburger for 1 day, which will make you sick?9.Organoleptic Indications of Pathenogens. Plant foods give tell-tale signs of "going bad". Ever hear of someone getting sick from "bad broccoli"?10.Heart Disease. Meat eating increases the risk of heart disease, this country's #1 killer. The correlation is an epidemiological fact.11.Cancer prevention. Of all the natural cancer prevention substances found: vitamin C, B-17, hydroquionenes, beta carotene, NDGA, - none has been found to be animal derived. Yet most meats, when cooked, produce an array of benzenes and other carcinogenic compounds. Cancer is infinitely easier to prevent than cure. Soybeans contain protease inhibitor, a powerful anticancer compound. You won't find it in useful quantities in animal based food.12.Disease Inducing. The correlation between meat consumption and a wide range of degenerative diseases is well founded and includes.....13.Osteoporosis14.Kidney Stones and Gallstones15.Diabetes16.Multiple Sclerosis17.Arthritis18.Gum disease19.Acne. Aggravated by animal food.20.Obesity. Studies confirm that vegetarians tend to be thinner than meat eaters. Obesity is considered by doctors to be a disease within itself.21.Intestinal Toxemia. The condition of the intestinal flora is critical to overall health. Animal products putrefy the colon.22.Transit time. Wholesome food travels quickly through the "G.I" tract, leaving little time to spoil and incite disease within the body.23.Fiber deficient. Fiber absorbs unwanted, excess fats; cleans the intestines; provides bulk and aids in peristalsis. Plant food is high in fiber content; meat, poultry and dairy products have none.24.Body wastes. Food from animals contain their waste, including adrenaline, uric and lactic acid, etc., Before adding ketchup, the biggest contributors to the "flavor profile" of a hamburger are the leftover blood and urine.25.Excess protein. The average American eats 400% of the RDA for protein. This causes excess nitrogen in the blood that creates a host of long-term health problems.26.Longevity. To increase ones risk of getting degenerative disease means decreasing ones chance to live a naturally long healthy life. Huzas and other peoples with large centenarian populations maintain lifestyles that are relatively meat free.Ribecca

There are so many reasons, religion, health, believing that killing animals is wrong, being against the cruelty that animals face in factory farms... i became a vegetarian because I thought eating corpses is a bit weird, and because I was against the way animals are treated. I know a lot of people who don't eat meat for a mixture of these reasons...

Usually its the fact they don't want to have the guilt of an animal being slaughtered on their mind and the thought turns them off of meat. So really its the first that causes the second. If said vegetarian didn't know what happened to the meat before it was bought/served then they wouldn't stop eating meat. I became vegetarian for a while (about 8-13 months) because I saw how the animals were done up and I felt bad, but it is no different than a hawk eating a robin or a crocodile with a wildebeest. Its whats meant to happen and that's it. But back on topic (sorry, rambled a bit) The fact they don't want animals hurt causes the feeling of sickness by looking at meat which causes them to not like it or eat it.

There are multiple reasons and most vegetarians have more then one. Besides the issues you mention there are concerns about the waste inherent in meat production-it takes many pounds of plant foods to produce one pound of meat. There are also health concerns arising not only from the fat content of meat but from the steroids and antibiotics fed in stockyards not to mention some of the processing procedures. Also, the butchering process, while truly horrific, is not the worst of the cruelty. Animals lives in factory farms are like something out of a horror novel-horribly crowded, filthy quarters with little natural light and no freedom.

I chose not to eat any meat, including fish (which is meat) as a combination of faith and environmental reasons. When I learned of factory farming and the rape and destruction it was causing to the planet to satisfy greedy Americans (even wild caught fish destroys the environment) it was disgusting. I wondered how I could consider myself a person of faith and support such things, especially since I was raised to care for the earth (long before it was trendy) out of faith and thanks to God. (God gave us this earth as our home, it is up to us to care for it.) I'm healthy and I'm in my second vegan preganncy. My two-year-old rarely eats meat. However, she does eat eggs and cheese on occasion but they com from very local (within ten miles) truly organic, truly free range farms. (My husband eats meat, but not daily. On occasion, when he is pressed for time between his daily work and his evening meetings, he will stop at a fast "food" joint, but that's maybe once a month. Otherwise, he buys his meat from a local meat market that is also truly free range and truly organic-- They are the sole suppliers for Whole Foods in Ohio. Still, I no longer have a taste or a desire to eat animals.) This is my reasoning in a nutshell. I recommend the books, "The Ethics of What We Eat Why Our Food Choices Matter" and "Fast Food Nation". From what I understand, "Food, Inc." is similar, but I've neither read the book nor seen the documentary. (I'm putting it on my list for when I'm very pregnant and can barely move and I'm doing marathon breastfeeding sessions the first few months of my baby's life.)

There are several reasons. Some could be doing it for more than one reason, and some reason's overlap. I think most fit into one or more of the following:1. Some think animals have rights and they do not want to hurt them. Some people in this group are quiet and don't bother others about it. Others like PETA are obnoxious nutcases.2. Some think it is healthier to not eat meat. These people are generally polite and don't bother others like PETA does.3. Some just do not like meat. People in this group often eat a little bit of meat, because there may be one kind they like better than others. Or they may take a small amount at a family gathering etc.4. Some have religious reasons. Some of these have specific kinds of meat they don't eat. Jews and Muslims do not eat pork. Most Hindus don't eat beef and some groups of Hindus are complete vegetarians for religious reasons. Many Seventh Day Adventists are vegetarians for both religious and health reasons. 5. Some say it is less expensive to not eat meat. Many people in this group are not 100% vegetarian. They often eat a small amount of meat but limit the amount for budget reasons. 6. Some Christian groups reduce or eliminate meat because they say eating meat uses up too many resources and limits food for the poor. This is a small but active group within Christianity. It is not a denomination, but small groups in many denominations. They say it takes about ten or more pounds of grain to raise each pound of meat. The say reducing or eliminating meat frees up more food to feed people in poor areas. People in this group usually consider it a voluntary sacrifice and do not try to push the view onto others.

I had a vegetarian parent and did not like preparing food for him. Now I am living a healthier lifestyle and choose not to eat meat but also because it is easier than ever to be a vegetarian. The substitutes are much better now. From an ethical point of view I do not like intensive farming practices and the administration of drugs for animals in close proximity and growth hormones to increase bulk. These effectively end up in us. So given the choice between GM soya and the other chemicals I will go with the soya. Organic food is the best IMO.

There are many reasons, including ethical (they don't want animals to suffer), health (many studies suggest a vegetarian diet is healthier), religious (several religions advocate a meat-free diet among followers), financial (if you cook at home, a vegetarian diet is much cheaper than eating meat), environmental (the meat industry causes a vast amount of pollution and makes far less efficient use of land), fashion (vegetarianism is fashionable among some groups, such as teenage girls) and also because some people don't like meat.Vegetarians will usually list one or more of these as the reason for their lifestyle choices, but there are several other reasons too. In my case (I'm vegan), it's a combination of ethical, health, environmental and religious.

stating any one answer to your question would be generalizing a group of people...obviously there are some people who don't like the fact that animals are tortured and bred in order to feed the human race. some people just believe eating meat is wrong (even though a protein deficiency is one of the key differences between humans and monkeys). i know some people who cant eat meat because they feel sick when they do.

It can be both or one or the other. My Mom is vegetarian just becuase even as a child she didn;t like the taste of meat. She has never liked it. She accidently took a bit of a turkey wrap she made for my kids a couple of weeks ago instead of her veggie one. She HATED it.

Animals lives in factory farms are like something out of a horror novel-horribly crowded, filthy quarters with little natural light and no freedom.

stating any one answer to your question would be generalizing a group of people...obviously there are some people who don't like the fact that animals are tortured and bred in order to feed the human race. some people just believe eating meat is wrong (even though a protein deficiency is one of the key differences between humans and monkeys). i know some people who cant eat meat because they feel sick when they do.

It could be for health reasons, environmental reasons, animal rights reasons, or just by default if they don't like meat.

How serious were you to ask such silly question??? Well, if you are serious, let me say that they respect the being of other animals on this planet too !!
